Sweet-faced one

by Christos Polydorou

There is a girl in me. If you
knock down the wall of me
and clear away the debris
you will see her, unblemished,
looking back at you, her
eyes full of words, her arms
with books, and her blue dress,
strings of her fabric catching the
light. I am not sure who she is. Maybe
one day I’ll give her what she needs
and she will give me peace.
