Writing hurts

by Christos Polydorou

Writing hurts, if you are doing it right. I meet people who all say they have a novel in them and wish to write it. I, who have been writing my whole life consciously to become a writer, do not recommend this to anyone. Every day it is like tearing off your own skin. Writing has proven to me that the path to redemption is paved with suffering. The suffering cannot be avoided, nor can the pain. Because you do end up stronger, and redeemed, if you stick through it, if you continue to practise your writing, so that it becomes an art.

Writing hurts.
