Lovelight in my eyes

by Christos Polydorou

You might say
I was brave
to live
as long
as I did
in Plato’s cave, no
where near, Palo Alto.

I did not consider
myself particularly brave, I
just looked
at the shadows
the flames behind
me cast
on the cave wall
before me. All

this happened until
I fell in love. Now
I am outside
the cave, which
was underground, in the
light.

I look back. No
shadows anywhere.

I look up.
