When I taught English as a Foreign Language in Cyprus the most uncomfortable thing for me to try to explain was the difference between lie and lay. It almost made me feel ashamed to explain it, because it seemed like the English language was a lovely lady whose clothes I was removing without her consent, but nor her complaint. Light melts, absolves, and transforms, everything it touches. I trust light implicitly to save me from situations which confound me.
