I need a hero, Bonnie Tyler

by Christos Polydorou

Never meet your heroes. This is so true. I wish I had never met Jeanette Winterson. I wish I had never met Penelope Lively. I wish Gary Shteyngart would just unblock me on Twitter. Even Joyce Carol Oates. I wish I had never met Alexia. I wish I had never met Annie Lennox. I wish that one time I went to see Morrissey he didn’t storm off stage after three songs because fans were moshing to pop music. Art should stay in the realm of dreams, and artists should never be seen. Never meet your heroes, because the heroes are the books, the albums, the paintings. The artists are just people, like you and me.
