Once upon a time there was the obvious thing and there was the distracting thing. The distracting thing generally won the attention of everyone looking until the obvious thing cleared its throat. Everyone was initially startled by the genius of the obvious thing, but it was not really genius, they just could not see it. What was the opposite of genius was how they could have been distracted so long, which is why the obvious thing, buried under double layers of blindness, seemed genius.
