You are protected

23We are protected.
We hear this, and agree.
From what?

The things we want?
But we didn’t invent them.
The things we need?

It is human nature.
From what, pray tell,
are we protected from?

What evil forces, surround us,
attempt, to confound us,
blind-side us? Why?

We want to know.
Who walks behind us.
Should we fear them?

Should we indulge them?
It is not madness
to question

if any presence within invisibility,
it is primal.
They painted on the caves of Lascaux

to interpret the uninterpretable.
Beyond interpretation
is not insanity,

it is revelation.
Can we handle the answer?
We wouldn’t have been allowed

the question.
